Oddities in this adaptation

Overall, I thought this was an excellent adaptation. However, there were a few oddities I noticed, especially compared to the original graphic novel.

1.) "The Gotham Life Building". In Part 1 Two-Face's target is called "The Gotham Life Building", while in the book Two-Face refers to "Gotham's beautiful twin towers". Apparently the filmmakers thought the original description of "twin towers" would be insensitive in the aftermath of 9/11.

2.) "The Missing Gunshot". The book makes it clear that the General commits suicide with his own gun. If you watch the movie with the subtitles on, you see the caption [GUNSHOT] while Batman is walking away down the hall. But there is no gunshot on the soundtrack. Is this an error? Or was the sound effect removed for censorship reasons?

The caption [GUNSHOT] appears at 42:18-42:19. There's percussive music at that point that sounds something like a gunshot, but there's really no gunshot sound effect - at least not in my version.

No, theres a clear gunshot sound

Interesting. I have the DVD version and the gunshot is missing. Is anyone else with the DVD version experiencing the same thing?

reply

I downloaded it in HD and hear the gun shot. Maybe you have a problem with the surround sound system?

They also refer to the two towers in the movie.

The exact quote in the movie is "two bombs big enough to make both towers rubble." So yes, they acknowledge that there are two towers. However, they avoid using the phrase "twin towers" which appeared in the book and has been subsequently linked to 9/11.

I guess it's an issue with my TV/DVD player combo. I played my DVD on my friend's home theater system last night and the gunshot was audible. It wasn't very loud, but it was definitely there.
