When Lore pulls that old Data switch was a height on genius!

I've not actually seen it or any of the promo material yet but we all know that's going to happen and so was Fassbender good at it? [giveup]

reply

No, it was done terribly by scott. It was so obvious that hed done a data/lore that you can even spot it without seeing the movie lol.

reply

I sure hope we didn't get that unexpected xeno sucked out/blown out of an air locker as the conclusion to the movie...he wouldn't do that now...would he? :D

reply

lol Yeah, theres no point in you going to see this movie at all lol

reply

Duly noted, thank you for saving me the spare change I'd have shed to confirm my prejudices about this endeavour.

There must be some of that Prometheus magic though, you know, that depth and nuanced subtlety which made people question their very existence so much that they felt capable of throwing out terms like 'retard', 'idiot' and 'moron' to anyone who dared query their blind reverie of a cult classic in the making return to the golden age of science fiction by the master of the modern take on such movies (Well, except Alien - that was just a slash flick in space, oh and Blade Runner was apparently crap too - but NOT Prometheus, that was deep dude!), that's there - right?

I mean I'm looking forward to the destitute coming here and telling me how it changed their lives in ways unimaginable to meagre minds such as mine.

There must be something in this movie, the visuals perhaps, the soundtrack, the acting, the CGI????

I mean, it's Sir Ridley Scott of Prometheus fame, we should bow before him and accept that he's naked whilst telling us he's wearing the latest in haute couture.

Where are those emotes?!?

reply

Prometheus brought up great questions, but its execution was terrible. Here those questions are tossed out the window in favour of people dying left and right in mostly gruesome ways because they did something stupid. Its an alien movie. Youll have your check list of what makes an alien movie and this movie will tick every box. Scott has been listening to fans and has just gone out and made something that alien fans with worship him for, or at least what he thinks alien fans will worship him for. I wont go so far as to say its a rehash of alien with the names changed to protect the innocent, but its not far off.

reply

So Dallas, the big questions of Prometheus (I've yet to hear what they are, feel free to throw them out to me) are ignored in favour of a gorefest with lots of xenos and an idiotic crew.

Is it at least...scary?

reply

I suppose the questions were largely in my head after seeing the trailer, rather than in the movie lol I was interested to see a heavy scifi movie about our origins tied in with the origins of the alien. We didnt get that. We didnt even get a sniff at that. I thought maybe we'd get a little taste when the giant 'engineer' stood up, but instead of some great dialogue he just started murdering people lol.

As for this being scary, not so much. The gore factor is set to mild to light as youd expect from something aimed at 15 year olds. As for scary, it might be to anyone thats never seen an alien movie before. Or any movie where people get killed off like camp counsellors in an 80s slasher flick.

reply

The promotional material for Prometheus really had me excited. The focus on Fassbender's David 8, the TED talk with Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, a timeline of Weyland's successes leading the when the film would take off, Shaw's online video messages with a slew of diverse people mirroring her facial expressions in a close up request for a meeting, the trailer (This will be awesome, I can't believe the trailer already looks like a full movie) - I completely get it. The marketing was sound as a pound Dallas.

That's why when I walked out, stunned at how bad it was, I went online to laugh about how I'd been duped only to see that early adopters for the Cult of Didley Squat were setting up superiority camp and trying to administer their "Authority" on all matters Prometheus.

Obviously I did the world a service by way of giving back and schooled them on all matters cinema (AS far as I know anyway).

Helluva four and a half years but they know who they are and they know how ridiculous they were attempting to be in retrospect.

Were you ever there on IMDb Dallas?

reply

Not so much, had a long spell on the stargate universe boards having much the same conversation about ideas/concepts verses execution. After that died on only browsed every now and again. I have already seen a few people talk about this like its awesome. I can understand why they might say that if they had no expectations of something with little depth, but other than that its just another let down as far as Im concerned. I wanted to like prometheus so much, and it was just meh as fuck. I had hoped that this movie would save, but all it did was make it even more pointless than it already was.

Thank god Scotts changed his tune on making another 4 or 5 of these cash grabs.

reply

I wouldn't trust anything Scott says, he changes his tune more often than a busker outside the stadium after the football derby is leaving.

reply

lol true that.

reply

data lore is great

reply

LOL, yeah I figured it out from the get go but yes, Fassbender was very good in this!

reply

I keep hearing how good Fassbender is in this, perhaps they should have stuck to a movie about his characters.

reply

I feel a sigh is in order here... If only...but wait
😞
disappointed face will have to do.

Oh Ridley you didn't.

reply

Ridley going for the Jesus/Judas were twins move, a bit of Cain and Abel, Yin and Yang, sci-fi goatee versus non-goatee?

There was NO WAY he wasn't going to it Dazed, I called this as soon as they said there'd greenlit the sequel (Before they'd announced multiple Davids)

I've still not seen it but I think I can imagine the whole affair better than it actually is.

When are you seeing it?

reply

I remember you saying it!

I'll see it when it gets a DVD release,I was quite excited by the trailers but this switcheroo puts me off,not to mention that David appears to become an evil scientist experimenting.Coincidentally Brad Douriff did just that in Resurrection.

reply

Brad Douriff did it with aplomb! Right up until the end too, proper b-movie sci-fi that was!

I'll be watching it as soon as it is made available to me for no additional fee.

I think I'm going to like it just for the sake of switching it up. Those Prom fans couldn't do it with five years to hand, I'll do it within 20 minutes I'm sure. I'm already trying to big it up without trying in threads which don't seem to get replies...(I wonder why).

Where's the old guard? We need Nicky and igetitfaster etc. back in here fighting their "Good" fight!

reply

If I remember correctly Elijah wasn't enthused by the A:C trailer,I wouldn't be surprised if the others didn't like it either.Especially if it doesn't answer questions like it promised it would.

Brad Douriff is the best thing in any film he's in,he is my favourite deranged psycho.

reply

No, c'mon!

Ridley was their free ride into being cinema experts - they'd either have to stand by him or admit they were wrong and we all know how they felt about not being right.

I hope they show up, it'd be nice to see their thoughts on the movie - whether they liked it or not.

Brad is great, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is what done him I reckon.

reply

They may be lurking as we speak..

Anyhoo I can't stop myself reading stuff about it now,I always do this!
I will probably have spoiled it for myself and I'm already prejudging it but I'll hopefully still give it a fair go.

reply

I always give something a fair go, I even gave Prometheus two because people were so adamant that it was deep and I didn't see it first time around.

Will seed4evah!

reply

Not paying to get ripped off again, are you Harry? Me either, once is enough.

Perfectly unpretentious backbone of the board.

reply

TKJ!!!

Welcome aboard man, good to see you again! :) (They don't have easy emotes here yet)

No way am I paying, but I will see it [uhoh]

Can you get that radical Swedish political party which specialises in sharing things online to hurry up please [smile]

reply

You too mate. I did sign up here as soon as IMDb closed down but I lost access to my account after only one post, so I kind of gave up on this place. Then after reading a few not overly positive reviews, I decided to give this board a second chance. So far I've seen a few posters who liked it, but no one's defending it. It's almost like if none of the "lovers" have seen it yet...or perhaps they're still chocked how wrong they were. So what do you think, will there be any action on this board?

I'll see it too eventually, also for free. Unfortunately I don't have any connection with people who run that site. At least the audio is out :-)

Perfectly unpretentious backbone of the board.

reply

I'm hoping there'll be action on this board but hope springs eternal (Shizz, that's a Pandora's box metaphor isn't it?).

It would be nice if people all migrated to one place and from my very basic research this seems like the best alternative to our IMDb message boards and so yeah...maybe they'll arrive.

It's the usernames that people were attached to I think, that and the day of joining (As if that gave authority to their opinions! :D)

We can only hope and build upon what we have in front of us.

Apparently Beja is here, once we get Ray (Should that happen) we'll have our Swedish triads back together again :)

I think the game for now is to figure out who is who and who is new.

Fun stuff if that's your thing.

reply

Yes this sure looks like the best alternative, at least that I've seen.

I don't really know who's here but apart from yourself and dazed, I've seen Seneika, Sinister and Foxcatcher (Elijah I presume).
I guess figuring out who goes by what name can be kind if fun, as long as they're not trying too hard to hide it. I guess you chose a name by which you'd be recognized this time.

reply

My other names had been pinched already!

I thought long and hard about an appropriate Harry and I think I landed quite nicely :)

I'm not saying we need a register (We need a register!) but it'd be good to know who is who from the old boards if they are happy to volunteer such info.

reply

I don't know if you chose the right Harry, he did get beaten up and died ;-)

If there are people here from the old board, they can't hide forever. Sooner or later they'd share details only known to people posting there for a long time. I'll try to catch up on this board and see if I can spot anyone I recognize.

Perfectly unpretentious backbone of the board.

reply

But did Houdini die?

He was a master of trickery and deceit (Not that that's anything to live up to).

:D

reply

Did he die? Well otherwise he'd be the oldest living person by far.

Master of trickery and deceit you say, is that you Ridley?

reply

You can't kill an idea TKJ ;)

reply

Is that why we have Prometheus?

reply

ROTFLMAO!

If only it could have been killed TKJ!

If only!

reply

Well, we did our best to kill it after the fact. It was like shooting a dead horse. I'm gonna watch Covenant now, I'll share my thoughts later.

reply

There was a character called slam evil who posted on the Taudarian thread,he was obviously a regular.

reply

Slam Evil eh?

I can't think of anyone obvious who'd use that nick, be good to find out who they were if I see them around here.

reply

I found the post but can't click on the user name so maybe he was from IMDb?

https://moviechat.org/tt1446714/Prometheus/58c81f572214d80b5cfdd2e1/Taudarians-Prometheus-the-movie-they-say-makes-sense-repost-repost

reply

I see your pal Wilson and my chum TerryGG are on that thread!

Going from the dates there I think it must be from the records they saved from IMDb and so Slam Evil must have been a member there.

I've seen the film now Dazed and it's not so bad (Not so good either but better than I thought it would be).

Word count is shorter here though and so am having to reply to myself to summarise it all.

reply

😁
Just read your thread so far,Taudarian would be proud of you [winkgrin]
It looks like the crew aren't much brighter or better led than previous crews!
I'm glad you kind of liked it though. So if the rest of the guys return which camp will you be in?
Was the David posing as Walter bit as cringe as you thought?

reply

Multiple formatting quote don't seem to want to work here, so back to old schooling it.

"So if the rest of the guys return which camp will you be in?"

[laugh]

Good question!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be in the camp off non-hater. I wouldn't say lover but I certainly didn't mind it and would rate it above a 5/10 (Probably around 6-6.5).

"It looks like the crew aren't much brighter or better led than previous crews!"

The crew are better written, there aren't massive scientific inaccuracies about things we already know and it doesn't feel like a cartoon brought to live action. It has flaws but no more so than a typical science fiction flick.

"Was the David posing as Walter bit as cringe as you thought?

I expected more as Fassbender is clearly capable of being able to deliver more, it wasn't cringeworthy but it could have been written better with a wider scope of identity and motivations behind what makes up identity. It was very Lore and Data.

"Just read your thread so far,Taudarian would be proud of you"

As I am proud of him for his thread. Be good to see what he thought of the film, and furthermore what he thought of it in comparison to Prometheus.

I think the reverse of what happened with Prometheus is true here. Some went in thinking Prometheus would be awesome and maintained that attitude despite having no arguments to back it up. I think many of that "Some" will now have jumped ship thinking that they're doing the right thing now but, as with before, won't be able to justify their stance on this one.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

It would be nice to know what you think of it, I'd only recommend it to fans of the franchise or the science fiction genre in general but it was certainly more palatable than Prometheus for my tastes.

[smile]

reply

I think there are genuine fans of Prometheus,I really do.
I was always a liker,I didn't hate it.
Once the flaws are pointed out it's hard to ignore when you rewatch, that is true.
But I am definitely more forgiving than I am discerning when it comes to films. (Translates to I'll watch anything!)
I will see it and probably enjoy it,it won't change my life I'm sure.
We were mostly there for the dysfunctional family get together.😕😇😈

reply

I'm sure there are genuine fans of Prometheus - just like there are people with mental problems in real life too. As long as they can justify their stances though I can't find fault with them.

I'd guess that if you liked Prometheus then you'll like Covenant too Dazed - no promises mind!

If flaws are a thing then I'd say Shaw's dogtags appearing in this movie but being absent from the last (From memory as the crucifix seemed to be a central theme and that's why I remember what was around her neck) is the only one which is jarring to me. Not a massive problem and I can see why they'd put it in but it's a made up point to my mind.

I'm pretty discerning but I'd have to say I'm pushing it trying to see it as flawed as Prometheus. Covenant was pretty easy to watch and whilst there are scenes which seem pointless and only there for some action - it's not ridiculously overdone or dwelled upon.

I'm not sure the film will change your life but perhaps discussing it will [tongue]*

Of course we were all there for the dysfunctional family get together. I think we even adopted and babysat the neighbours kids so more people could get in on the action [smile]

*The old tongue emote, not that stupid one of an actual tongue.

reply

Were they the dog tags of Idris and co?

reply

Nope, a set of tags hanging on a chain with Elizabeth Shaw written on them with the Weyland logo above her name.

reply

Ah that must represent that she is now without her faith. That she chooses to believe in herself rather than God....

I dunno!

Where does this all take place? And is there really a rape scene?

reply

It all takes place on the ship she and David left LV 223 on which seems to have somehow crashed on the Engineer's homeworld and is being explored by some of the crew of the Covenant.

As for a rape scene...rape can mean so many different things these days. There isn't a sexual rape seen on camera or alluded to at any point but Shaw doesn't have a good time of it by the sounds of it all and there is an enforced kiss on the female lead and android Walter by the android David.

So, open to interpretation but certainly nothing concrete under British law.

reply

Hi tkj 😀

I saw you were on the Prometheus board but only posted once!

Surely Foxcatcher wasn't Elijah? I thought Asphyxiod and Foxcatcher were one and the same but that Elijah was just himself.I think Asphyxiod was from India.

reply

Hi dazed. Yes I only posted once, then for some reason my password didn't work anymore.
My bad, of course Foxcatcher was Asphyxiod from India. But I do believe Elijah did use another name as well, never verified though. Seen anyone else around?

reply

Beja and Seneika were here,I'm trying via FB to get them back!

I remember Elijah having another name too,I can't remember it just now.We didn't really chat that much so I'm not sure I'd recognise his style now.

I was saying to Harry that Elijah wasn't impressed with the trailer so I'd be interested to see if he liked it.
I saw BB on another board imdb2,don't think I've seen anyone else.

reply

Well, it sure would be interesting to see what the old lovers thinks about this one. Based on what people people around here say about it though I doubt they like it. I'm gonna watch it now, I'll let you know what I think ;-)
