"-Ash and Bishop.. why so mediocre compared to David and Walter": Depends on resources. Ash was on a lover priority mission and so a lesser android was approved for this trip. We cannot all drive Ferrari :)

David wants to destroy his creator because they are inferior. This includes the Engineers.

David takes this colony from Covenant and creates his army of Aliens to defeat the real home world of the Engineers (those human sized, worshiping humanoids we see in Covenant, cannot be it).

After destroying the original Engineers world, David escapes hurt and head for Earth because we are next on his agenda. But then he crashes on LV-426...he sends an SOS to be intercepted by a human spaceship, as he knows humans apparently and uncritically respond to SOS’s and thereby will inadvertently help spread his creation to the human world too (he need a slower incubation time for them to board their ship first and so he increases the incubation time that we saw in Covenant).

... and Alien (1979) begins.

You are right, they misinterpret the signal at first. But tell me (I do not remember), how could they know if the signal was either if it came from the Space Jockey (alien race)? Or was it a human signal?

I skimmed the script, and they record a transmission that indicate something "went down"... that is all. So not a SOS signal or anything like that. Secondly it is MOTHER that speculates the transmission could be interpreted as a warning... so really it is just some Alien transmission they are trying to figure out. Anyway, changes nothing. I just did not remember it clearly.
