the $200,000---spoilers
When Ginger agrees (along with a reluctant Augie) to have Hal invest their entire lottery winnings, and they lose it --the movie doesn't really explain exactly how Hal steered them wrong---my question is why wouldn't Hal, who obviously had millions in cash, real estate, jewelry and God knows what else--just write them a check for the measly $200 grand and get them out of his hair? It would also make him look good. Jasmine was very guilty and apologetic about the loss to Ginger when she moved in with her.
