A better Mad Max origin tale than the actual, original Mad Max.

Yep.

reply

Ha I kept thinking its a realistic version of something like the road warrior .

reply

Agreed. This makes the original mad max look like crap.

That's not difficult.

I just watched it tonight and I concur with you and the other posters:
"The Rover" is "Mad Max" if MM was set in the real world.

I also caught undertones of Tarentino & Cormac McCarthy.

I rated it '10' and I almost never do that.

reply

Apparently tarantino really enjoyed this film

reply

I think a lot of people would like this movie if they were aware of it.

reply

Amen! I would give it an 8.

reply

I had not thought of that, but I agree. The first Mad Max film was *beep* and this film is very Mad Maxian.

reply

I've always wanted to see either a remake of the original Mad Max or some kind of prequel of Mad Max that went into more depth on the collapse of civilization side of the story.

reply

I agree that it was a better and more well-done film.

reply

Amen!

reply

Yes indeed!

reply

I must watch this.

A wise decision imho. I watched it streaming on Netflix. If you like post apocalyptic films, you will definitely like this one. It's what Mad Max would be if set in the real world.

BTW, I saw the director's first film "Animal Kingdom". It was also very good.

SPOILERS!!! I don't know what y'all are smoking saying this movies is realistic? What's realistic about it? Also, in the OG Mad Max, the characters, their motivations and their actions at least make some sense. This one? A guy goes of a killing spree so he can bury his dead dog.
Also, thieves (maybe. it's never explained) take Eric's car because their truck got stuck (not because they were worried about being identified with it). Okay, reasonable. Eric un-sticks their truck and follows them and says he wants his car back but they say no and knock him out. Also that whole confrontation was completely idiotic on Eric's part. No one would confront three armed men like he did AND no three armed men (who have already murdered) would let him walk up on them like that but since they did, why not avoid all that and either shoot him dead or trade back if they didn't want to commit ANOTHER murder? Their truck was fine and seemed more suited to their exploits, but no. Then, after knocking him out, they leave him AND their truck!! WTF!!! They could have had two vehicles! Even if they were afraid that the completely ineffectual cops knew what they were driving, they were going FAR away and as Eric said, he murdered his wife and no one cared. As soon as they were out of the area, they'd be forgotten.

That's only a couple of the nonsensical, ridiculous events in this rubbish movie.

I had similar problems with the plot and the actions of many of the characters in this movie.

reply

Agreed, anyone who thinks this is better than the original Mad Max is smoking crack. This movie was not only unrealistic, it was pointless.
