Elba and madden American lmao

Seriously they couldn't have sounded more British if they tried. I'm not far into the movie but it's been revealed elba and madden are supposed to be American, why?

The movie would still make sense if elba was MI6 and madden a British thief, arguably it would make more sense since UK and france are neighbours and have open boarders so why make them American.

Americans are more marketable. People world wide relate to Americans as heroes, we all look up to Americans, we all want to be them, have what they have, look the way the look. British people have had teeth and dress in soccer wear, not very marketable at all. People hate the British and personal I can't understand a word that comes out of their mouth, terrible accents.

reply

You must have found it extremely hard to follow this movie as both main character's have a distinctive British accent, you must also hate nearly every major American tv show as the main actor is almost always a brit. Your mad if you think everyone loves Americans and wants to be American, I have no problem with them myself but Americans have to be the least popular nationality in the world.

If they wanted the character's to be American they should've got Americans or actors who can do a half decent American accent.

Open Borders?

You do know that the UK never signed onto the Schengen Accords, and thus there still exists Passport Control between France & the UK, right?

Also unless they're Native Americans, then they're descendant from Immigrants who came to America in the last 400 years, more or less.
America is a Nation of Immigrants, even if Republicans would want us to forget that and only focus on banning certain "types" of Immigrants.

Are you trolling or just stupid. UK and France are both in EU, EU has free movement so any brits can decide today that he/she is going to live in France or any other EU country and that country can not stop them. Americans can't just go live in France they have to apply so my point is valid the movie would make just as much or more sense for them to be British.

unless they're Native Americans

What does that have to do with this thread? It's about elba and madden having British accents but supposedly being American.

reply

No, I'm not stupid. Being able to live in the other Country is different from having Open Borders.

France and Germany (both in the EU) have an Open Border, because they both are Parties to the Schengen Agreement. That means that you can drive on the Motorway between the two Countries, without any Border Checks. It also means no Customs Control between the two.

Sweden and Norway (one not in the EU) also have an Open Border, again because both signed on to Schengen. No Checkpoints on the Border between the two.

France and the UK (both in the EU) have a Closed Border, because the UK (as well as Ireland) opted out of Schengen. That means you have Border Checks (Immigration and Customs). Wether you take a Ferry, the Chunnel or an Airplane, you will need to show your Passport between the two.

The UK and the Republic of Ireland do have a Common Travel Area, so you can take a Ferry over to Dublin (or cross the Land Border in the North) without having to whip out your Passport.

The UK always had full control over it's own Borders.

EU Citizens do need a Residence Permit when living in a EU Member State besides their own. Usually there is no problem in obtaining it, though there are cases when it can be denied.

What does an accent have to do with being or not being an American Citizen?
Plenty of Latinos, Asian-Americans and others (Italo-Americans, Scottish-Americans) have an accent.
It's not like there is only one American accent for every American there is.
Both Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump were born and raised in New York City, yet they have very different accents.

reply

Omg you are stupid, you've yet to give me one reason why it makes more sense for them to be American. It's far easy for brits to live in France than it is for Americans FACT. They had BRITISH accents FACT so it would've made much more sense if madden was British thief and elba a British agent.

What does an accent have to do with being or not being an American Citizen

Really? Madden chatacter has a distinctive Scottish accent are you seriously trying to convince me someone born and raised in Las Vegas would have a bloody Scottish accent. As for Elba's character who has a blatant London accent yes he may have possible move to US as an adult and got citizenship (although I'd be surprised if the CIA would hire foreign born agents) the fact still remains he would be British with American citizenship and since hes called American and not British it's clear his character is also supposed to have been born American. So how many people born and raised in US have UK accents? ZERO.

Well done on ignoring the question of what "unless their native Americans" had to do with this thread.

reply

I don't have to convince you of anything.
There are plenty of People born and raised in L.A. who have a noticeable Latino accent.
There are People born and raised in the Tri-State Area who have a noticeable Italian accent.
There are People born and raised in Detroit who have South-East Asian accents.
People of Irish descent have had a noticeable accent for many generations.

Why make them American?
Because America is the Greatest Country ever known by Man!
But, seriously, probably they intended to release it in the US and having them be Americans makes it more relatable to the Audience.

What the reference to the Natives means is that all others, be they White or Black, are Immigrants (or Descendants of Immigrants who came sometime within the last ~400 years).
