Really well made American Indie that really packs a punch

I actually saw Director/Writer Destin Daniel Cretton follow up this before seen Short Term 12. The Glass Castle, and I was slightly disappointed by that one besides Woody Harrelson's great performance. After seen Short Term 12 for the first time tonight I can see why a lot of people at the time had a ton of hype behind The Glass Castle. Short Term 12 is a fantastic film.

Amazing to look at the cast of the film now, with two Oscar winners in Brie Larson and Rami Malek (funny since his Oscar win, he's put front and center on the DVD covers when he's really barely in it. Plus recent covers have it as happy go lucky comedy type of film). You have Get Out, Sorry To Bother You and Atlanta's Lakeith Stanfield and Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever, both are fantastic in this.

As much as I'm not her biggest fan of her offscreen behavior in recent times, Larson probably delivers a better performance here then she did in her Oscar winning role in Room. She's heartbreaking in places, especially finding out about her past. But is the heart and soul of the film, and probably cares too much about the kids in her charge. Also her characters relationship with John Gallagher Jr co-worker character is sweet and beautifully done, Mason is just one likable guy and is the right guy for Larson's Grace.

It's a tough film in places but really I can see why it's got 8 on IMDB, one of those American Indies that live up to the hype
