Jimmy is Cassie's father but I can't remember what her relationship to Duncan is.

Did Jimmy & Fran divorce and she married Duncan? That makes him Cassie's step-father?

reply

Yep.

Thanks!

It's the other way around. But, yeah. Fran and Duncan split. She married (?) Jimmy and they brought up the lass when they were living South. After she died and Jimmy came back he stayed as her guardian. I think Jimmy refers to himself as her dad, and Duncan her father.

reply

Really? I haven't read the books. I thought Jimmy was her natural father. How could he (Jimmy) possibly be her guardian if her natural father was alive?
That makes no sense. I can't get the dynamics!

Some while later :
Ok, he's brought her up, as his own, from infancy. That Duncan was a nasty-pasty philanderer. They - the deceased wife and Perez- lived in Northumberland for a while. WTF he was thinking about, leaving Northumberland to 'gan back hyem' is a ferkin mystery.

Ooh, we have the bare bones of a drama! OK, not quite.

In the books Duncan and Fran are Cassie's parents but they are divorced. Jimmy is Fran's partner and when Fran is murdered she leaves a letter saying she wants Jimmy to bring Cassie up. Duncan agrees as a kid would hamper his party lifestyle etc
