Ah, a murder rate exceeding Walt Longmire's Absaroka County, Wyoming

Almost finished with the third season and this is an enjoyable program, fascinating exteriors, and environment, but come on - a murder rate far exceeding even that of Walt Longmire's Absaroka County, Wyoming.

Sometimes there are just as compelling non-murder tales to tell.

what would the story be a pbs travel show like Rick Steves in Shetland

reply

Doesn't hold a candle to the murder rate in the Midsomer villages.

reply

Valid point, I'd say.

and cabot cove.

I never really got into Jessica's 'adventures in Cabot Cove.' No particular reason, I just never got around to it. Sure I've seen a handful of episodes, but that's all. I should really spend some time watching it. I know they employed a lot of "vintage" actors in guest roles.

shetland has seasons 6 and 7 which i much watch. i fell behind on this series.

Six is better than five, in my book. I got annoyed at that mother of the missing girl. She kept getting in the way of Perez's investigation.

Five was horrible. Six was good. Seven so far is really good just 2 episodes in. (BritBox releases one a week in US.) Jimmy Perez (Doug Henshall) is leaving series, and there will be a replacement. I hate when this happens. Actors become successful on signature series and they leave and do nothing. Case in point, David Leon on Vera (Joe Ashworth) and Harry Cunningham (Tom Ward) on Silent Witness. But of course actors have careers and some feel the commitment to one long series ace them out of really good roles. I know Cillian Murphy couldn’t wait to leave Peaky Blinders. Same with the last episode that should have happened in Montalbano. But I don’t think Shetland reached that point as did maybe Inspector Lewis or Endeavour.

I'm a BritBox subscriber and I've decided to wait until all of the seventh series episodes are released by them. I'm aware that Douglas Henshaw is leaving, but I believe I read somewhere that the show will continue. Let's hope that the quality stays high. It'll be interesting to see who takes the lead.

I can understand that actors get to a point where they decide they want to move on to other roles (I can't blame them), but it is disappointing for fans of a show. Yes, I miss Tom Ward. I think Kenny Doughty has performed admirably after David Leon left. It's tough to step in after a popular actor has left.

We have to keep in mind that sometimes the actor ages out of the character. David Jason wound up his stint as Jack Frost at age 70. How many detectives are still actively working at that age? The same is true for Lewis. Kevin Whately maybe could have going on for a couple more years, but he played the same character for a very long time, going back to Inspector Morse.

I think you are doing the right thing - waiting. With Lewis - it was a good time. In Endeavour, Thursday wants to leave and that’s okay. He’s in the new series Murder in Provence. A lot of shows also want to leave on a high note and I get that. Peaky Blinders went downhill before it ended and Killing Eve not only descended in the last season but the season before that. But I don’t think there was anything that could compare to Vera and Joe’s relationship - when I watch Vera now, I just watch Vera - I wonder if that show is even coming back. I think it is. Doughty’s a nice guy but the chemistry Vera had with Joe was phenomenal. I think both Harry and Joe left in a hurry and without proper notice. The shows didn’t have time to create sufficient plot lines for their exits but both actors were not in a lot of film or TV after that that warranted their leaving in the first place. Brenda Blethyn said after David Leon left that it was a real low point for her. And Nikki with Jack in Silent Witness is just so silly to me. She is also in a new series - Signora Volpe.

i forgotten how necessary subtitles are for this series.

One of my favorite shows. Season 7 is finally coming to BritBox, but I'm toughing it out and waiting until all episodes are available via my PBS subscription. I'm sure I'll want to binge it to get to the "who dunnit." I suspect it's going to be a few weeks since BritBox is posting episodes one at a time. Oh well...
