Wow, what an epic waste of my time. Don't believe the hype.

Well, what a waste of two hours of my life that I will never get back! Feel conned. SPOILER: Basically it's about a self absorbed 'successful' older man who wants to get his end away whilst in a hotel. Finds a self depreciating woman who would go with anything, cheats on his wife whilst away and goes home. End of! No depth or character development. I'm a psychiatric nurse so know all about hidden depths etc but this poor effort addressed nothing. Yes, he has issues but will go on to continue to repeat as no one challenged him. My advice is DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS VERY POORLY ANIMATED CARTOON.

So I'm not entitled to my opinion then?

reply

It's a shame that's all you got out of it. After watching it a second time recently, I'd probably have it in my top 30 or so movies.

reply

Glad you like it but I got nothing at all from it. Just another self obsessed bloke getting his end away really. Not heard of the so called psychiatric diagnosis for this (apparently the name of the hotel) and not interested as don't believe it exists. He appeared very depressed which antidepressants and CBT would help with, or a narcissistic personality disorder but that's as far as it goes.

reply

Oh the diagnosis exists all right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fregoli_delusion.

reply

Sorry but as a mental health nurse we refer to the DSM version 5 and this 'delusion' does not exist. Wikipedia is very often plain wrong. Just saying!

reply

Oh for gosh sake it's not like the DSM is the Bible in that it is the last word on whether a mental disorder is real. There are even literature articles out there about how delusional misidentification disorders such as Fregoli's pose difficulties in fitting into current DSM classifications, see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2963468/ and http://jihs.in/assets/articles/0e68dfeae5ca0e6e6e48b334c9dd3b82.pdf.

reply

I didn't take it as being that literal. I found myself relating to Michael in some ways, but people don't all actually sound or look
alike to me.

reply

I think we all feel like this from time to time but see you GP if you think something is wrong. There is help out there and no need for anyone to suffer alone.

reply

I didn't think that the hotel name was meant to imply a diagnosis. I was just responding to the notion that the "so called psychiatric diagnosis" wasn't a real syndrome.

reply

Calm down dear, it's just a discussion. I agree, there are many delusions and this would fit into that category within DSM5 but I think it's important not to isolate. I still believe it comes under possible severe depression which would be my first line of treatment or PD of which there are so many variations and symptoms very often patients don't just fit into one category. Have a good day.

reply

Yeah, i would take your words more seriously if you were a clinical psychologist. Being a psychiatric nurse you're basically just taking the holistic approach, which in itself is something the medical consensus hasn't developed an universal and acceptable standards for.

Also, to become a psychologist you need to have a doctorate in clinical psychology. They are the ones who specialize in an accepted field of human behavior, cognition and emotions.

Besides, at least in the US to become a licensed psychiatric nurse you just have to obtain a bachhelor's degree in this field. Here in the EU bachelor's (or more precisely undergraduate) is not a degree.

reply

Blimey your comment is patronising. I've worked for 17 years in acute mental health, dementia, learning disabilities, forensics and currently crisis home treatment. I have a Higher Education Diploma in mental health nursing plus a first class honours degree Bachelor of science with specialist practitioner status. I also have the ENB 998 teaching award. If I were to list them all I'd be here all day. How DARE you suggest that my qualifications are worth nothing compared to the Americans. Have you any idea how much blood, sweat and tears I put in to obtain that degree, whilst working full time on top of it and supporting a family. We are paid a pittance for what we do. 99 per cent of the nurses I know, including myself came into this to help make things better for others. With this horrendous government and their cuts it is now THE most thankless position you could imagine. However I still strive to treat all my patients as I would like to be treated myself. I work over by at least one hour on every shift to achieve this. I see men like this guy in the film almost daily and if you want to totally trash my opinion then feel free. You talk about the Americans being superior, well at least WE DON'T HAVE A TYRANT AND DICTATOR FOR A PRESIDENT that the rest of the world is laughing at. End of.

reply

Actually, if you read my post with a clear and unemotional head, you would have stumbled upon the last paragraph where i said "here in the EU" (which definitely doesn't make me an American, nor someone living in the USA), and also that the community college and postgraduate degrees you get from the US mostly aren't accepted in the EU. Nowhere did i praise the US.

I did state the fact that to become a full-time qualified psychologist you need to have a doctorate in clinical psychology, hence why people tend to go study clinical psychology more - it just correlates with medical and human cognitive disorder world more.

Trashing about how nurses make little. Yes, they do. They make little here, too. But that falls into the same category as to why elementary school teachers ccomplain they don't make good money (compared to their uni professor counterparts).

reply

I get your point. I always have a very clear and unemotional head on otherwise how would I deal with people in the job I do. You are basically saying that I shouldn't be moaning as should have trained to be a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist to earn good money. I am well aware of what a clinical psychologist does, I work with them on a daily basis, as I do psychiatrists. My original point was that this man's behaviour could fit into multiple diagnosted categories or he could just be a self obsessed person. Not all people who treat ohers badly have a mental health ticket. How I WISH that the NHS supplied us with more psychologists but the fact is a patient has to currently wait approximately 12 months for an initial assessment and from then on may get up to 12 sessions. It's nurses like us who are dealing with the daily issues of people ranging from mild depression to full blown psychosis. I do, however respect your point of view that you would value the opinion of others rather than mine. I would say to you, if you have issues yourself to see your GP who can do the appropriate referrals. Have a good day.

Very insightful.
This is why I don't do social media, apart from the odd comments on here.
Just full of trolls and people hiding behind their anonymity.
