I worked for Vern Clark. Vern Clark was an Admirals Admiral and a pretty stern man. A CNO that himself as CINC 6th Flt questioned the President openly during Allied Force. The guy had balls. He didnt take crap from anyone, unless he asked an open question in an open forum. I saw Vern Clark get taken to task by a Female Lt. Commander who was on his staff. She did it in front of others, but protocol aside he asked for an honest answer and she was right so it stood up. If that Female Officer didnt bang everything that moved she would probably be an admiral herself.
But as the other poster mentioned, this show isn't depicting the present day normal situation. Its post-apocalyptic tale where there really isn't any protocol left.
