Season 7 - two thumbs up

I'm a bit late to the party but I got the s7 DVD set and so far (I'm up to episode 6) I've been thoroughly entertained. Leah Purcell is doing some fine work here, her Rita is becoming a more interesting character than even Bea Smith for me. Susie Porter fills the villain role perfectly too, her sly, underhanded manipulation of everybody to me is more menacing than the almost-cartoonish villainy of The Freak (nothing against the brilliant Pamela Rabe, but I was ready for that storyline to end way before it did).

I know this show is wrapping up soon but, as sad as that makes me, at least they are going out on a high. Great Aussie TV, makes me proud that we can produce a series of this quality.

Done now, and that was phenomenal!

SPOILERS

Biggest lump in my throat with Lizzie's death scene, it's a long time since I've seen something as genuinely moving as that on TV. Celia Ireland deserves some sort of award for her efforts here. Ditto Purcell and Porter, they all shone in this season and lifted the series from the rut it was veering towards. Always happy to see Nicole da Silva returning too, even in just a cameo.

I clearly spoke too soon re The Freak. The final reveal was classic cliffhanger material but they are sure going to have to weave some script writing magic to make her resurrection believable and save it from being one big shark jump. I'll certainly be on board with S8 to find out.

Overall, best season since the first.

I agree it is fantastic, just finished Season 7. Happily there is a Season 8 and hopefully a few more seasons after.

Apparently the 9th season will be the last.
