Do think RJ Will Still Do His Trilogy Now?

TLJ is underperforming, and looks to barely pass Rogue One now

"Disney and Lucasfilm latest entry in the Star Wars franchise is another smash hit at the Box Office, surprising no one. The film has already made half a billion worldwide — and it hasn't even been out for a full week yet.

A box office report from Deadline estimates Star Wars: The Last Jedi has hauled in $537 million in theaters across the globe, with $274.8 million coming from overseas markets.

The number comes after a huge bump on Tuesday where the film made a combined $42.1 million from global markets. The movie has continued to have impressive hauls out of the weekend, capitalizing on its impressive Monday where it scored $22.2 million overseas and $21.8 domestically.

With a minimal drop off from Monday to Tuesday, Rian Johnson's installment in the sci-fi/fantasy epic is poised to have a huge week heading into a crowded Holiday weekend. Of course it will see some competition when Pitch Perfect 3, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and The Greatest Showman all open this week.

So far the movie is performing just under Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, though those performed exceptionally well. The Last Jedi is still hauling in huge amount of money, far from underperforming or even disappointing to Disney executives.

The numbers might not stay as high heading into the next week, but it does have a lot of opportunity to continue pulling in large audiences as more and more people go on winter breaks."

If making a little less than some of the highest grossing movies is what you consider "underperforming" then I guess rians trilogy is in trouble.

Today looks like it's on the verge of collapsing...$17 million.

lol

reply

I guarantee you Disney isn't laughing about this.

reply

Yeah, cant imagine why theyd be happy at a half a billion in a week.

reply

It's losing steam very quickly, though. Jumanji has a good shot at beating it on it's SECOND WEEKEND!

You don't think Disney is concerned by this trajectory?

reply

You mean because you keep making shit up? Not really.

reply

Why did you think that Jumanji had a chance of beating TLJ for that 2nd weekend? I'd like to know where you do your data-mining or what you use for references and sources. Many of your doom and gloom projections doe Disney and the MCU don't appear to meet your prognostications.

Is there a reason why you post the way you do that matches up with the data that you read or get?

reply

It'll scrape by with at least a billion worldwide.

reply

Maybe. I really don't think Disney cares. People are gonna support whatever goes on screen and buy all the toys no matter what.

reply

I disagree. How many people bought Jarjar action figures? People buy merchandise when they want to relive a movie they enjoyed. There's also a difference between seeing a movie one time and numerous times and buying DVDs. I've stopped watching numerous movie franchises that have went downhill including Terminator, Aliens, Star Trek, superhero movies in general, X-men.

Fans can be very forgiving, but if the movies repeatedly disappoint them, then Disney will ultimately make less money. I think they are concerned because they brought back Abrams and hired Ron Howard. Article I read said Kennedy wanted someone with experience to end the trilogy.

reply

if he does I really cant see it fairing that well at all , TLJ had that Star wars spark missing

reply

I'd love to see RJ's trilogy but with this underperformance of TLJ I don't see it going forward.

Hollywood got their just deserts. The whole shut down online criticism and silence the opinions of fans stunt has backfired epically. 2017 was the year the power of the people overcame the ego of the billion dollar studios. People want unbiased film making, free of political agendas. Now look, we have a Star Wars film underperforming and a sea of online backlash.

They took our film discussion platform away and will continue to do so until they realise we're the ones lining their pockets.

No I don't. He may direct/write one of the movies but I don't think it will all be overseen by him at this point and it shouldn't be.
