Why Bulgaria?

I could see Turkey, Bosnia, Kosovo or the world's rape capital of the world - Sweden. But Bulgaria? It's Europe's poorest country so they'll allow anyone to shoot a movie there for a few bucks, even if it falsely demonizes the whole nation. Some countries would sue. Bulgaria is too poor for that. So why not pick on them and stay clear of naming the true offenders? Makes sense, thanks.

I think because it's one of those "Eastern Bloc" countries whose government and citizens tend to be portrayed as cold and unfeeling (like in the "Hostel" movies), and the whole vibe and visuals in general seems depressing and dark. I've never been to Europe so I don't want to make judgements but it seems like most movies that take place in those countries make them seem like they're not as fun as Western Europe where everything looks more colorful and lively. Whether that's actually true I don't know, but filmmakers seem to want us to think that.

The government is in cold storage at Roswell. Aliens are running Washington.

yeah it's realistically depicted for the most part. makes sense to me. they were like the bulgarian mafia. they weren't representing all bulgrians but it is more realistic than seeing this happen with say 3 italian mafia men or something like that. they do choose countries where people are more cold and mean to americans. doesnt mean it's not true.

A degenerate, shit smelling Bulgarian goon, wonders why Bosnia,Kosovo or Turkey aren't portrayed as Bulgaria was in this movie...well i guess the movie did portray Bulgarians exactly as they are after all.
