Got a so-so script which just needs a little extra something? Slap the name "Cloverfield" on it and then make some contrived connection... or don't even bother... People will think it's more than it is and see it multiple times and buy the bluray trying to figure out how it all ties together... Pretty good scam JJ! How many more times do you think he can get away with it?

As long as people buy his shit, he will produce it. Simple as that.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up!
It goes with his old genius strategy for "futuristic look": add some flare on the camera.
But everybody figured that out right away and called him on it.
JJ is the king of all gimmicks! Or is it still Shyamalan?
