Jazz was great in its heyday. But, the most people in jazz can do now is performing the great tunes from the Hard Bop times. Which can be great for fans of the 1950's to 1960's like me. But, I personally haven't heard that much that's even really good unless I go back to the classic recordings or, as I said, listen to a band that performs the classic tunes.
That's just the way it is when you are in a music genre that isn't a 100th as popular as it was back then.
Jazz is real, serious music. Whatever pop crap is in vogue with the IQ-challenged today will be forgotten within a few years, and jazz will still be important.
