George Takei's and John Cho have both played the famous Hikaru Sulu. Sulu's sexuality in Star Trek canon has a complex and divisive history.
In the original series, Takei played Sulu as straight. That was never in question. Not that he had much choice, as homosexuality still had the stigma of being considered a mental illness back in the 1960's.
Now Cho is playing Sulu as gay. It gets really complicated because George Takei has actually come out against the change, saying that's not the character.
Cho Sulu being gay means Takei Sulu was most likely also gay. if I remember correctly there didn't appear to be any scenes of Sulu being attracted to women aside Mirror Mirror when he attempts to seduce/assault Uhura - but surely the mirrorverse dosnt count as everything is turned on its head (gays could be straight, straight couid be gay etc)

shareAlthough I can't cite the exact episodes, I do seem to remember Takei's Sulu in the original series being flirty with a woman, giving a passing female a second glance, or mentioning an attraction to some woman on a few occasions. Sulu, as portrayed by Takei, was undoubtedly straight. Even Takei himself says so, and that's definitive as far as I'm concerned.
