Carol Marcus' absence from Star Trek Beyond didn't make much sense, but the planned explanation would have perfectly referenced The Wrath of Khan.

Mustve figured she wasnt important enough to be referenced (unlike say Vicki Vale in Batman Returns). Also there was a feel of wanting to get away from Into Darkness - probably another reason Orcis script was canned, which was to feature Carol Marcus. Alice Eve must've been thrilled with Pegg that he wrote her out lol
