Cheating people doesn't deserve any sympathy.

There is never ever a reason for cheating in my book, so if you happen to
"accidentally" have sex with someone outside your marrige because you are unhappy,
then the fault still lies on you.
It's pretty simple, if you are unhappy enough to cheat on your man or woman,
then just end the relationship and act like an adult - or try working it out.

But never say there are reasons for cheating on your partner.

I don't care if this man's life was turned upsidedown because of a "mistake",
learn to keep your pants on.

Something tells me this show might not be for you.

Life's just not that simple, no matter how much you stamp your feet and insist people conform to your ideas.

Whenever there's a show or movie where infidelity is part of the plot, the Morality Police spam the boards with their cliche rants. You'd think the characters were cheating on THEM in real life.

I always get the feeling someone probably is/was cheating on them in real life, which is why they come here to take their own personal issues out on everyone else. As if scolding the viewers and actors to remember that IT IS EVIL TO CHEAT, NO SYMPATHY FOR CHEATERS!!! will make it all go away, and infidelity will cease to exist.

That's such a narrow black and white view in a world full of colors. What you consider to be "normal" doesn't always work for everyone. For example, I take great satisfaction from being in an "open relationship".

The key to this lifestyle working so well for me is keeping my wife from finding out that I'm in an open relationship with her. It's the best of both worlds for everyone involved!

Quick! Someone help me, before I help myself.

I agree with the OP. It is about betrayal. Marriage is a partnership and when one party unilaterally breaks it it causes all kinds of havoc. There are often others affected like children, and yes, parents, and the breakup of a home.

In The Affair, I think the both cheated on were totally undeserving of what happened. Both still very much in love with their spouse, they suffer a lot because of a fling. Of course, the show demonstrated the terrible damage done. How much better off would they all be if there had been no affair. The show is actually a morality tale. And its not over yet.
