Evie: "You Understand" (Spoilers?)

In the final episode of season two, when Erika Murphy (Regina King) tells her daughter Evie that she doesn't understand, Evie writes out two words: You Understand. Erika begins to cry and the scene ends. My only thought about this was that Evie's grandfather molested her as a young child? That's why Evie was crying so loud in the bathtub? Any other thoughts on what is to be "understood"?

she said that in reference to the fact that Erika was going to run away from the family herself at the beginning of the season (Evie found her hidden stash of money that she was planning on taking and running with). Evie felt like Erika was abandoning the family and wasn't going to tell anyone. Evie understood Erika was unhappy with their "perfect" family and their "perfect" town. And Erika understands that Evie was unhappy as well. She wanted out as well.

Thank you, I had forgotten that scene. It all makes much more sense now! 
