I read that Fosdick Ward was also the name of a ward in "Carry on Doctor", and the head surgeon brought to mind the James Robertson Justice character Sir Lancelot Spratt in "Doctor in the House" - arriving in an old Rolls Royce and grand-standing on the morning rounds.
Another good episode, though I'm still not getting the final scenes featuring Tarot cards.

An his name was "Sir Merlin Chubb" - just to rub it in!

Now, I'm wondering if all four episodes this year contained film references?
As I wrote in another thread, "Harvest" just HAD to be a whole extensive homage to Wicker Man when Morse got to the village.
It was even filmed similarly to Wicker Man when the cop (yes, ALSO a cop) first arrives and starts to see all the odd villagers who are going about village business, but at the same time something seems slightly "off" and eerie with a strange vibe.
Wonder if episodes 1 and 2 had fun film shout outs, too? Worth a second look just for fun.
The first episode had indirect references to "HAL" from 2001. The computer was "JCN". "HAL" is one character lower than "IBM", whereas "JCN" is one character higher than "IBM".
Russell Lewis always inserts film references into his scripts. To read about those references visit my blog about all things Morse, Lewis and Endeavour. The blog address is below.
As 'Marlburian' has already noted Fosdick Ward is straight out of Carry on Doctor whilst the external shot of the hospital reveals it to be the same building used as the hospital for that film, Carry on Again Doctor (I think) as well as later for Carry on Behind (standing in for a university rather than a hospital on that occasion!).
Must admit I did miss the 'Matron reference though!
