SXSW performance

I recently watched Chef for the first time and found myself pleasantly surprised in the best possible way. While reading about the film's history, however, I noticed that it premiered at SXSW 2014 and didn't take home any awards. That same event, Before I Disappear took home the Audience Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury award.

Now, Chef was critically lauded and is widely seen as one of the best "feel good" movies, while Before I Disappear has a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes and been described as aimless and non-substantive. While I like both films, I definitely prefer Chef and am shocked that it didn't even get nominated for anything at SXSW. How did this film not prefer so well at the event?
