Why did Nash keep his family in

That motel for so long? He made good money, he could've rented an apartment until his house was ready to move back in to. Instead he stays in that shjtty motel waiting for that crazy redhead to show up and recognize him.

reply

Er no one would have done that obviously in the real world.

I have no idea. His first paycheck after 2 weeks was $3250. I don't live in florida, but I am pretty sure that is enough for first&last in some bad apartment at the least.

Next scene he made like $7200.

So...you are right. He was an idiot.

Same reason he wouldn't move to Tampa - to buy back his home out of sentiment, instead of doing the thing that makes the most sense, in their new situation.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

I don't understand why he wouldn't have just gone to another motel or something?

one word - inertia. Nash and in particular his mum displayed plenty of it - the tunnel vision about wanting to buy their old house back being the biggest example.
From what we see on their first night in the motel, when there's music blasting outside (or from one of the other rooms) that the child is somehow sleeping through, we're given the impression that staying there was untenable. One of them even says "we CAN'T stay here".
After a few days though, it seems they get used to their new situation and comfortable at the motel, his mum in particular with her new friends there, and so they just kinda settle for staying there if they can't get their own house back, and so don't even consider that there could be other options now that Dennis is making money.
