Has anybody ever been evicted?

I can particularly relate to this movie as I have experienced eviction in my early 20's. My mom, my sister, my 2 brothers and me were kicked out of our place in the middle of January with freezing temperatures outside.

There were 2 cops and a bunch of state-payed movers, "fortunately" they gave us 15 min to gather personal belongings, not 2 like in the movie. The rest of the furniture (aka what wasn't stolen by said movers) was stored in a warehouse and we had 3 months to empty the lot, after which everything would be sold or destroyed.

As one can imagine, it was like the sky fell on our heads, but after a 2 years rough patch of living in precarious housing, we eventually found a new place and everything worked out for the better.

Loved the movie BTW, gave it a 9/10. Found the almost "David-Fincher-esque" tension to be very efficient, the story highly interesting and relevant (had no idea about this infamous business), Michael Shannon is sublime in his role continually waving his e-cig and Garfield delivers a rather candid and touching performance miles away from Spiderman. All in all, very efficient movie. Good surprise for a random pick.

I will finish by saying that i think the movie makes an interesting point by having Garfield being a former evictee himself. Having experienced a similar situation, i can tell you first hand that pretty much anyone would do anything to keep his family off the streets, even if it means being on the fringe of legality. I would go so far as saying that i wouldn't have had the "moral fiber" to do the right thing at the end. Nuh-huh, screw the right thing. Screw morals if it means never have to look ever again at your lil' sis eyes not being able to tell her where we'll end up that night.

So my only problem with the movie (and reason why a 9 and not 10) is the ending, which i found too idealistic and not really in tune with pragmatic realities. If i was Garfield, i would have screwed the guy over with the forgery, justifying it by thinking "I got screwed, he got screwed, everybody gets screwed." And having done the deed, i would certainly not incriminate myself in front of cops, but rather help the poor dude the best i can by hiring a good lawyer, help his family while he's away and give him a good job straight out of jail. Something in those lines.

Certainly not shoot at the golden goose's face whose golden eggs literally lifted me out of my misery, as Garfield did!

What do you guys think? And back to the original question, has anyone on here ever experienced eviction?

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

It shouldn't be like the sky has fallen on your heads since you do get plenty of notice. They give you the first notice and then you get a date when they are coming to move you out, if you haven't gotten out on your own by then. That's one of my problems with the movie, they made all the evictees act like they were totally blindsided by the eviction day. Stupid Hollywood drama.

Also didn't like how they perfectly lined up the ONLY guy who did actually get screwed by the bank be the obe whose son was friends with our characters and who had interacted with our guy twice before the ending scene.
