an old man's thoughts on the movie

it is good that hollywood finally paid a little attention to everyday economics. Finally.

But this movie avoids the real economic issues that are behind this. It is not the foreclosure mechanisms that are the problem. The real problem is how the big money manipulates home prices and inflation continually upward via manipulation of interest rates and mass immigration.

Big Money has made america into a debt creation organism. And we are trapped in this machine.

Mass immigration is used to depress wages and eat up the housing supply.

Also zoning laws and bogus environmental regulations and building codes are used to drive up home prices.

And then we have the national central banks, such as the Fed Bank in america, which collaborate to create a form of casino capitalism.

So, although it is good to see hollywood address real life economics, this treatment we see in this movie is terribly naive and shallow. The real villains are in washington DC, in congress, the white house, wall street, the supreme court, etc.

In a free market economy then immigration should be a good thing.

Else you will have high wage inflation.

It's that man again!!

I agree that it's refreshing to see relatable movies about regular folks. It may get more attention now that Michael Shannon is up for an award.

The treatment of the subject matter isn't shallow, it's just not the focus of THIS story.

If you want to watch that movie, The Big Short is nominated for Best Picture and is the story you are looking to be depicted in this "micro" view of the housing crisis depicted in 99 Homes.

Two very different movies, though relevant to one another in topic.
