Its Been Sitting On The Shelf For A Year ?

if i am not mistaken this film had its debut screening at the Sept. 2014
Toronto International Film Festival. i am dubious as to how good the film
is if it has gone unreleased a year since its TIFF debut. that never
sounds good. if it were any good they would have released it the fall
of 2014 as an Oscar bait film.

While it certainly doesn't imply greatness, there are a lot of excellent films released far after their initial festival showing. This is especially true of movies that won't really be Oscar bait.

The producers explained last year why they decided to delay the film. Broadgreen acquired the film pretty late in October 2014 and they were going to try and squeeze in a release before the end of 2014 to qualify for the Oscars, but decided they didn't have enough time to do proper promotion. They didn't want to rush it and wanted to take the time to mount a proper marketing and Oscar campaign and wait till 2015. I think it was a good move.
