Man I like this kind of stuff!

Someone mentioned Trees Lounge in a previous post and I think that is so spot on in terms of the whole life-just-happening vibe. It's kind of like that film, if the characters were darker and shadier. Like if Trees Lounge and Fargo had a baby but it looked more like Trees Lounge. It doesn't have the "action" that a conventional glitzy hollywood mob movie normally has and everyone is kind of bumbling about, which to be honest, is probably how these small town mob businesses/feuds operate. It's very real and the acting alone held me.

For me, what sealed my liking for it is the way it made me question my perceptions of right and wrong. I like movies that are subtle like this, in terms of how it kind of challenges the ideas of who should get what kind of justice and how I kind of feel myself rooting for situations that are on the grayer side of the ethics spectrum, but it never really preaches the answer to you. You work that out and decide for yourself. I like that it's a movie that doesn't sell itself on the action so that the viewer isn't carried through by all the mayhem with storms of gunfire and explosion. I like those kinds of films too, but I enjoy these the best because I am always pleasantly surprised.
