Showed it at my kid sister's birthday/Halloween party!

She was just turning 14 and loves horror movies -- so do her friends -- and I'd been reading about how scary this movie is (even though I'd never seen it before) so I picked up this DVD and also "The Ring," starring Naomi Watts, cooked up some popcorn for Kris and her five girlfriends, and we all settled in for a spooky double feature.

Biiiiiig mistake.

I ran "Back Country" first, and they actually found it pretty darn boring for a while...

-- until it got to the bear attack. That changed everything. The scene shook them up so much it actually ended the party right then and there. In fact two of the girls (ages 12 and 13) were crying so hard we had to call for an Uber to take them home. And no, we never did get around to watching "The Ring."

Lesson learned: This is not a "spooky Halloween movie."

It's a lot more disturbing than that.
