Before we even mention quality, it should be pointed out that these two movies are going for a very different feel.

Backcountry is a stripped down, clasutrophobic. It moves slowly and attempts to develop characters through dialogs. It doesn't always succeed in this respect but it has a lot of atmosphere and is more tense and gripping.

Into the Grizzly Maze is something else entirely. It has an action adventure feel, with a brash, heroic film score, really obvious, two-dimensional characters. It is less tense and more action-oriented.

Neither of these movies is a masterpiece but I did enjoy Backcountry a lot more. Backcountry haunts you with the feel of desperation it instills. I felt bad for the predicament the couple was in. By comparison, Into the Grizzly Maze is harmless. I really don't mind action adventure movies. In fact, I love them. But this one plain didn't work. Cinematography is by the numbers and you get a bunch of former A-list stars in the same b-movie. It collects the clichés seen in other movies like Jaws, Lake Placid, Anaconda, The Ghost and the Darkness but fails at breathing life into them.

So, Backcountry: OK movie, a 5 or 6 rating.

Grizzly Maze: Pretty bad but watchable, a rating of 3,

Both aren't that great. If you want an awesome movie about bear attacks watch 'The Edge' with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin.

That's not necessarily a "Bear Attack" movie though is it?

It's a survival film involving a bear that stalks/kills human prey who are lost in the wilderness. It has a superior story and better acting than Backcountry.

Backcountry is better. It's more realistic and very intense.
