Isn't it offensive to the real survivor *SPOILERS*

To make the male character such an idiotic sterotype that basically causes all of their misery AND to have him killed for a stupid 'survival girl' clichè?

I think so.

I don't know, I don't think you have to have a problem with women to be disgusted with the way this movie reduced the boyfriend to a caricature. I'm female and I found it pretty irritating as well. He really came across as an idiot. As I said in another thread, he made one irrational decision after another:

"Nah, I don't need a map".
"I'll just leave the cell phone. No way we'll need to communicate with anyone."
"If I pretend I didn't see this large bear print, maybe it'll go away."
"Something big enough to break a large branch came into my camp last night. Oh well."
"I see a large bear down the trail, but that's no reason to get the bear spray out."

A more well-rounded, less cartoonish character would have made for a better movie, IMO.

Um, I have a problem with horribly written characters, and those who enable that suckitude, so I guess I have a problem with you...
