hi guys. i admit i'm very very late to the party with this show. i just started watching it and i'm on ep.7 of season 1 and i freaking love this show! i wish i had watched it right from the get go. are seasons 2 & 3 as good as season 1 in your opinions? thus far i love everything about this show especially Janet Montgomery as Mary Sibley.
shareSeason 2 was even better than season 1 in my opinion with Lucy Lawless appearing as a fabulously powerful and evil aristocratic rival witch "The Countess Marburg" who is very interested in the grand rite being conducted by Mary... the trailers for the theme of season two is "Witch Wars", which gives you an idea of the theme of female witch politics, passions, and power struggles...
And now that the final season season 3 is over... it's rather irritating in general when a good show finishes

cyberose23, i just now finished the series finale in season 3 and i honestly had no idea how the character's fates would end up. i feel bad for Cotton but his sacrifice (which i'm confused about. was his sacrifice ONLY to, unbeknownst to him, to speed up little John's physical body into a man?) was noble.
i loved Isaac since the first ep and he was IMO the most sympathetic, good hearted character. i am a bit bummed that he was killed. i wish they had written it so that at least he (and his surrogate daughter) could have had a happy ending.
i loved that John Sr. and Mary got their happy/happy-ish ending.
despite some storylines/plotlines that were not completed (or followed through completely) i thought the series finale was very good and i love the show overall.
i just wish i had been watching each ep as they aired so i could have talked to you guys on these boards! better late than never i guess. :)

Yes the devil planned it so Cotton would sacrifice himself so as to speed up his own evolution.
The devil previously referred to him as "the one great soul" he hoped he'd be, i.e someone who would enter hell voluntarily.
Obviously Cotton just thought his sacrifice would save Salem which also happened and was the deal he agreed to, but he wouldn't have known about the true nature of the plan as to accelerate the devil's evolution.
Isaac may not have died.... he was just carried off by the mob. It was left open ended....
