Some things that puzzled me *Spoilers*

I feel like the original investigators did no police work at all. I thought it was obvious that Kari was dead. She just completely vanishes, no one sees her or hears from her other then text messages that don't fit her character at all. She has no credit or bank transactions, her house is full of stuff but she "moved" (which they did later show), and she leaves her kid out of the blue. It took them two years, and not even the original investigators, to say hey maybe she is dead and we should check the IP addresses of these emails. Once the emails and messages became violent, wouldn't that be one of the FIRST things you check to try and locate this person to at a bare minimum get a PPO? It seems crazy it took them years to attempt to look for this person.
