the band were pathetic and delusional

I thought it was hilarious how delusional and pathetic the members of the band were. One of them actually said that their reputations as musicians were being damaged by playing with David Brent. Yet, the irony was that they were playing with David Brent because they had no reputations. And when they started charging David to buy them beers and spend non-performing time with them, it became well and truly apparent what miserable human beings they really were.

Yeah they were all pieces of *beep* I actually liked that in a way because it made Brent's character more interesting. He isn't just bad in social situations (that is part of it), but a lot of the people he ends up being around are *beep* people. The people in his work, and the people at his hobby. It is like he never got a chance to refine his personality like most people do, because he never connected with anyone worthwhile in the first place. And the one or two people who are nice to him, he doesn't even notice. It is interesting and tragic, but the happy ending saved it.

True, besides the young black rapper and his agent the rest of those he was on the tour with were a miserable bunch of bastards. Yeah, his agent did get a bit fed up with Brent at times but it wasn't like he disliked him but he felt the whole enterprise was doomed from the word go and he was just frustrated that no matter how much he tried telling Brent, and for his own good he just wasn't willing to listen. His intentions were good and he proved that when he paid for the snow machine on their last gig. The one thing I didn't like though was how of a sudden the band members are quite happy to have a drink with I'm at the end which I think was Gervais being overly manipulative and pulling at the heartstrings. It would have worked better had they just had him and his agent having a quiet drink together at the end.
