If Last on Earth, what would....

Would you still use Stop signs?

How many days of driving would it take to convince you that you were the last person on Earth? Or would you rather send survivors to you with some type of signal, message, signs, beacons, explosions?

If you couldn't fly an airplane, do you think you'd try and learn on your own if it meant finding another person?

Would you take a boat across an ocean to find companionship?
(I guess there wouldn't be sharks to worry about)

If possible would you bring a child into this empty world?
Reasons why not?

You better pay attention so stop signs (see episode 3). I would not try and fly a plane because there's so much that goes into it mechanically it would be very improbable. It's not like a car where you can just make sure there's gas, oil and some brake fluid in and (if needed) just drive really slow. If you're flying and something goes wrong you don't just pull over, pop the hood and wait for AAA.

As far as kids go I think it would be impossible to keep them alive. I know this is a comedy but realistically at least one of the babies about to be born shouldn't live if we're going by Dark Ages statistics.

I'm surprised you remember that episode 3 incident haha
Eventually though I think we'd all try either flying or sailing to another continent depending on the group of people we created. There would be a member that would push us in that direction. There's always someone that's wanting to go on an adventure and try something new. I think the goal would always be finding more people mainly because of the boredom, and children would just be a result of all the careless sex haha. Even though they're the last people on Earth and they need to be responsible, there would still be that "I don't care anymore" attitude along with that biological need.

Speaking of kids, it would be neat if they come across a young survivor. It would add a lot of energy to this show. Phil needs a sidekick to be his old childish self with again. He also needs the responsibility of looking after someone.

No Sharks... Lotta STORMS, NO FISH TO EAT, NO MARKETS WERE TO GET CANNED FOOD FROM. I rather take my chances jumping through the ice of the north pole... But nope, not even that... Better use long distance communications to see if someone answers.

No, 10, yes, yes, yes, yes.

I would slow down for them in case someone's coming, not a complete stop.

I would not be convinced that I'm the last person on Earth because, heck, if I survived whatever killed everyone else then there's bound to be more. I'd put up signs in my area and set up a continuous looped broadcast telling anyone else listening that there's still someone alive as of such & such date and where I intend to be.

I wouldn't try to fly a plane as there's too high of a chance of something going wrong and without navigation help on the ground or a functioning GPS you're relying on a compass, clock, and visual cues just to know where you are, not to mention where you can safely land.

If I were to go to another continent, I'd take a boat. A big boat, with lots of fuel, food, tools, and smaller boats in case the big one breaks down. It'd be silly to go to another continent though because more survivors are bound to be on the continent you're already on.

No. I don't want kids as it is, it'd take a lot more people besides me to re-populate the world, and I don't want to put a huge burden on my kids without many advantages besides being able to ignore stop signs.

Makes sense to me.

With last nights episode I think the group's days of trying to attract more survivors are over now. I'm starting to think that Tandy really will be that last man on Earth and be surrounded by women by the time this show ends. He'll kinda get his wish but it will be too much for him haha

- I wouldn't stop using Stop Signs. I might slow down and look, but after a year of not seeing anyone, no way would I be stopping. I'd probably ignore them after a couple of weeks or months if I hadn't seen a person at all.

- I would something like what Phil did and write on a Billboard or Buildings where I am located.

- I wouldn't try an Airplane or I would be dead with everyone else. I would drive across the US though.

- If I did find others and got married I would bring a child into the world. If we were immune the child should be and I'd want there to be a future on this world.

PS, did they ever say what killed everyone in this show (just a disease that a few people for some reason aren't affected by)?

reply

I like what Fear the Walking Dead did (the idea of it anyway) with turning on the sign on top a skyscraper. Crank up the diesel generators in on these in each city you drive through and leave a note telling them where to meet you on a certain date. But I would of course scope them out that day from afar and try and get a good reading on them before meeting them haha

A virus killed everyone, only one man has blamed the government for it. They also said that most people chose to die in their homes which realistically means those homes are completely unusable now. It seems to have affected the entire world so I'm doubting it was a weapon of war. I think the show just wants to keep it simple and inside the U.S. for now. These survivors haven't really spoken about their past which might explain why they aren't dead (yet at least). Maybe they all had a common illness or disease or something as children.

Phil's astronaut brother is a scientist (biologist maybe?) and so he might figure it out and help explain things, unless he's dead. It's odd that we've never seen him trying to figure out why he's sick and if he can do anything about it. So this is what I think will happen eventually.

I think I'd quit using stop signs.

I think driving for survivors would be too much hit or miss, so I'd put up billboards, try to broadcast messages, and maybe find a military drone, attach a banner with my location and radio broadcast frequency and fly it over as much space as I could.

I might take a boat up and down the coasts from Nova Scotia to Rio, then the west coast from Vancouver to Chile just to plant signs.

No kids, even if it were possible, unless I could find at least a few hundred survivors, so as to prevent inbreeding.

reply

I'd want to travel the world for sure but would have to be so careful because no one is really there that can bail you out. I might take on quite a bit of paranoia and never leave the boat. I would definitely have to prep well for a trip South America way. Anything near jungle could end you pretty quick. In our modern world we chance a lot of things we don't even realize because there's countermeasures, but they don't exist in that world. But yeah I'd be so drunk and riding high most of the time as the "last man on earth" that I wouldn't care until it was too late. After all that death and 3 years of being alone you just wouldn't care anymore.

The people in this show are the dumbest ever, take zero precautions. Even broken glass could end you. I guess they're wising up though. It's going to be interesting once the fuel/food goes bad and they have to provide for themselves. I really hope they meet up with someone who knows how to farm, a man's man character.

Like Portugal?

that's quite a distance but maybe worth the risk at some point

Sorry, I was making an Arrested Development reference there. Wrong board. I would not try and cross the ocean. In fact, I would never sail out of site of land. Go down the east coast. Walk across Panama and find another boat on the other side then sail up the west coast.

reply

haha, I actually wrote that in Gob's voice, I just forgot that it was Portugal he confused South America with

I would drive all-terrains so I would not use roads. But I would keep them within sight.

No number of days will convince me... But the greater the number the greater my desperation that I haven't found any other survivor and that I might never do it...

I wouldn't even try with the simplest plains, flying is fun but dying from an airplane accident isn't.

I answered what I think about boats before...

Bring a child? Not willingly, I would willingly have sex but if that resulted in a pregnancy (the condom broke or I was taken so much by passion that didn't even used one) I wouldn't tell her to abort, I know well that could as well be telling her to commit suicide... I woild study all I can to be the best midwive out there and hope they both survive... Then I will have a doomed family but I will teach my child in advance to know the harsh truths of the world I brought him/her to... I would feel very much guilty about it, very much in debt to him/her for the curse I brought upon that child... At the same time lovigin the little fella as my own flesh and blood.

reply

Yeah willingly getting pregnant in that world without some sort medical professional around would just not happen in my opinion. Pregnancy would just end up being a product of circumstance. So this is why I think there would be a never-ending quest to find others to strengthen your team. You need a doctor, a farmer, a mechanic, a pilot, etc. Tandy's team only has a chef (which is great), yet they're having babies!

I think I'd risk it with working my way up through small personal aircraft, something like a paramotor for sure.
