What was so great about this movie?

Seriously.Not trying to be an ass to those who liked it.But as a lifelong horror fan i'm genuinely curious.Some posters are praising this movie like it's the best thing since the Exorcist and i just don't get it.

I found this movie to be generic,unoriginal,uninteresting and unless you scare easily not particularly scary.There was nothing new here.There was nothing that made it stand out from a 1000 similar mediocre movies.

Probably because of the attention garnered from The Conjuring, which is actually so much better than this movie.

I thought it was pretty good. Linking Manson and cult activities to explain how the doll became demonic, the origin of the evil was well played. Better than having a haunted house a la Amityville. You haven't had haunted dolls since Chucky in Child's Play and that was more comedy than horror.

There are tons of evil objects in the Warren museum no one's ever documented. Rich ground to cull from. It wasn't "found footage" or other done to death cliches like slashers or what not. It had it's niche. I don't really count straight to video rip offs that came after the Conjuring.
