Why was Dan already at Charles' house when Vincent arrived?

I know that there are many details in this series that seem mysterious (you really need to watch the episodes more than once to take everything in), but one thing that I cannot understand is why Dan was already in Charles house when Vincent arrived, and how did he get in. Did Liam leave a door open? When Vincent arrived, all the doors appeared locked (Vincent had to get a brick to smash the terrace door and get in), and yet Dan was already inside. Did Dan enter the house at the same time as Vincent but through another door? Otherwise he would have seen Charles seemingly dead on the floor and would have known that Vincent didn't attack him (and why didn't Vincent protest a bit more?). And, as someone else has remarked, how could a polar bear have entered (and and got out!)?
Why did Dan go there anyway? And wouldn't he have seen Liam?
This whole scene needs explaining. Can someone do it?

I also wondered why he drank the salt water to make himself vomit? Seemed a bit pointless.

When I saw he drank the salt water, it made me think that something fishy was going on with Dan. Add to it what the OP said that he was already at the house, and it just doesn't add up.

~After enjoying that movie, I figured I would drop by IMDB to read about its problems.

he drank salt water because he was drinking at the office and wanted to throw up, so he would get sober faster. later the guv. also asked him, didn't you drink? and he said he was off duty...

but he could still get in trouble if it was known that he was drunk when he arrived at the crime scene

but i agree, this is a plot hole, it was never explained why he was already at charlie's house!

There were quite a few of those kind of plot holes.

I think it was probably intended to make him seem suspicious but they never cleared it up
So it remains a mystery and a plot hole.

He was also already at the first scene where the polar bear was eating Billy Petigrew. Hmmm...only on Ep 1, so looking forward to the rest.

Just rewatching the series. The Governor told Dan that Charlie wouldn't give them the go-ahead for the glacier hotel, so Dan goes to Charlie's to talk to him only to find him dead. That's why he was there.
