Thank God no Portman!

I like her but not as Jane! There is zero chemistry between them and her personality/character doesn't fit in the movie.
I always liked Lady Sif and Thor more because of their chemistry and she is in his league.
Because of the annoying Jane I don't really like Thor movies, there is too much focus on earth and comedy. Just think of all Marvel movies this one is the weakest. Wish it was more like captain America in tone.

I agree. But to me though it doesn't even have to reach for CA's level. They just had to be swashbuckling fantasy films. That's in these Thor movies but yea the comedy and romance always take center stage but they both suck.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

I think my problem with Portman as Jane is her lack of chemistry with Hemsworth and her lack of enthusiasm for the role. She is just there to make $$$.

I hope this means we will also be rid of annoying Darcy and her equally annoying intern boyfriend, too.

reply

Yeah, she's very milquetoast in her portrayal of Jane Foster. Like she just sees it as a damsel in distress role and not the woman who tamed a God.

reply

No, she's there because of contractual obligations. She wanted out after Marvel and Patty Jenkins, the original director for the Thor 2 movie, parted ways due to "creative differences".

I get the same problem. I'm sure the money's good but it doesn't seem worth not enjoying yourself for like what three years?

Portman is really wasted in the role of Jane, it's true they don't have chemistry.

But it's also the same with Amy Adams, two incredibly actresses relegated to being purely the love interest and the damsel

reply

Portman is terrible in the Thor films just as she was is Star Wars. It's as though she has no idea what is going on and just mailed in a performance for a paycheck.

Portman walking away was a bad move on her part... Sure, clearly she doesn't seem to care, but I wish she did... because as soon as she'd transform to The Goddess of Thunder, our love for her was going to hit the roof...

Sadly, she doesn't care much for comics / not patient enough, and she gives the impression that she's above all this MCU "mumbo jumbo".

So, we'll continue to love lady Sif more, as we've been.

I doubt this was ever gonna to happen. If it was they would've recasted the role and had her in this film.

reply

I feel you can't recast such a role. Sure, Banner and Rhodes were recast, but, that was still early in the game, you know... Also, one is a sidekick, and the other was over shadowed by the electricity in the air, that The Avengers generated.

Seeing The Goddess of Thunder in this case, is not just seeing the character, it's seeing the transformation. Whomever they'd recast, it wouldn't work, because we wouldn't know her as Jane - thus connection lost/compromised, before her being The Goddess... The contrast would be gone.

Also, like how RDJ and Paltrow enjoy their roles, it caused RDJ to convince Joss to bring Paltrow on for The Avengers...

Had Portman shown such love, I feel like her and Chris would've pushed for that arc... And Marvel could've made it work.
