Hercules

Does Marvel even have the rights? I would have loved to see the God of Thunder having a quick spar with the Prince of Power.

reply

He's a Thor character. So yes.

Urich: Guess I have more faith in humanity. Fisk: So did Christ, if I recall.

reply

As far as I know Marvel Studios always had the rights to their HERCULES character. Was there ever plans for a film adaptation in the past? Because the character of Greek mythology has appeared in so many films, I doubt Marvel has plans for bringing him in, but maybe as a supporting character in a future film, perhaps.

Why wouldn't they?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I think Marvel has their own version of Hercules. Still confusing though.

reply

Hercules has had the distinction of existing in both DC and Marvel comics.

DC Comics Hercules was a misogynist from ancient Greece who didn't understand or accept that women could be badass. Not surprisingly, he was a minor enemy of Wonder Woman and her Amazon family. However, he managed to redeem himself, somewhat, by teaming up with Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl on a few occasions.

Marvel Comics Hercules was a more noble and heroic character, being best buds with Thor. While still suffering from handling a modern era, he found his place as a superhero and beating up bad guys and saving people never goes out of style. He was not really chauvinist, but was more a ladies man, sleeping with everyone from Psylocke to Storm.

Ironically, in the Marvel Comics the Amazons are the bad girls. And in a special event between Marvel and DC, Wonder Woman was hostile towards Marvel Hercules for no reason at all.

It's pretty interesting and awesome.

But speaking for myself, I'd love to see Marvel Hercules appear one day.

I would have loved to see a bromance between Thor and Hercules. Debating on out lifting each other, out drinking each other etc. Mt Olympus would look amazing in the MCU.

Hercules is a "public domain" character (like Dracula)... Anybody can make a movie, or publish a novel/comic book, featuring Hercules.

Send her to the snakes!

reply

I did think it was stupid back in the day when the X-Men were fighting Dracula.

I accept your surrender.

reply

The question was does Marvel Studios have the rights to their version of the character. So yes while anyone can make generic Hercules movies based on the myths they can't make a Hercules movie that resembles Marvel or DC comics version of the character. So if Marvel had sold his rights to Fox just because Hercules is in the public domain wouldn't mean Marvel could still make a Hercules movie.

reply

In movies he is portrayed by the Dwayne Johnson. If a movie is already out of red box I have no way of watching it though. Miss blockbuster

reply

Yeah, I love Dwayne Johnson but that Hercules movie sucked.

reply

The hot rumor is that Herc will replace Thor in phase 4 and beyond.
