any plot details?

Hi,

Anyone know if this has a tragic ending or not?

Me and a friend are fans of gay films but we're a bit over the many "and then he died of AIDS" or "and then he was killed by bigots" endings out there.

Or especially the "and then the love interest ended up with a woman" trope! LOL

The film hasn't been released yet and may onl have limited cinema distribution in the United States, and then be available elsewhere on DVD/VoD a few months later. The main character of the film does meet back up with a former boyfriend but I'm not sure what the exact ending is. The brief plot is as follows...

James, a young piano prodigy, returns home after a long stay in gay conversion therapy, and finds himself torn between his emotionally distant father and a past, loving relationship he has tried to forget. Trying to please his father, James starts a new relationship with Suzy but, as summer progresses, he finds himself at odds with what everyone else wants for him and what he wants for himself.

I ordered this film on DVD from Amazon UK (where I live) and it was dispatched from Sweden. The DVD is a German release and has German subtitles, which can be switched off. I watched it a few days ago and it's a really good film - a beautiful slow moving drama with flashbacks to the "pray away the gay" therapy sessions. The film itself is, in my opinion, very well crafted by everyone concerned - both sides of the camera.

TerryCardiff's synopsis is accurate. I am not however going to give the end away. But for JoyeyC, I will say that nobody dies.

Believe it played in Cannes Film Festival a couple of months ago. It has already been released theatrically (limited release) in Germany, where it is the Amazon.de current best selling LGBT film.

If you get the chance, see it!

If you like Fair Haven you may also like "Save Me" (2007). The plot has some similarities, with a decent script and is well acted by all the cast. I was very satisfied with the ending, which was what I had hoped for all through the film, but I won't say more as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

The film was developed and produced by Chad Allen, who also starred in the film alongside his partner, actor Jeremy Glazer. Chad Allen is also known for playing Donald Strachey, a gay private detective, in a series of television mystery movies for here! TV.

In "Save Me", Mark is an out of work gay man with sex and drug addictions. His father strongly disapproves of his sexual orientation. His brother forces him into a Christian residential centre run by well-meaning, but misguided, people. They first act upon his drug addicition, and then try to cure him of his "gay affliction". He meets a number of other men who are also at the centre to be "cured", including Scott with whom he works to earn money for the centre, which is struggling finacially. Along the way he learns the truth about himself both in his heart and in his spirit.
