Catherine OHara is horrible!
Anyone else Not buying her bad fake accent? She is such a great actress but her accent in this role is horrid!

I think that she is supposed to have a bad fake accent. Didn't the character she plays come from very modest means, and she is putting on a pretense of "aristocracy".
shareShe is. It's the perfect voice for her character, I couldn't imagine her with any other voice.
shareYou haven't met many New York "ahc-ting" teachers, have you? Sadly, it's all very realistic. The voice, the pretension, the bizarre black and white wardrobe, the irritating habit of over enunciating ev-arhy sin-gal syllah-ble. That's one caricature that's actually very true to life.
I think Catherine is nailing the role, and the writers do a great job of keeping her just terrible enough to still keep her on this side of likeable. That said, whenever I see complaints about the show, it's always about Catherine. I think unless you've actually met someone like Moira, it's hard to believe someone like that could exist outside of a cartoon.
Couldnt agree more, she's terrible. And that hair? WTF!
shareI just can't stand her character in this period. All the other cast is great (especially Stevie), but I just hate having her in a scene for more than 30 seconds.
shareBecause she is playing the part of a horrible former actress who thinks she is great.
What?! She is fabulous in every way!
shareSo far in the whole run of the show I think the only time you ever hear Moira's real voice is when she has the conversation with Jocelyn about being from a small town at the Hawaiian party. Otherwise her wall is up so she speaks like some ridiculous Hollywood type.
shareI love her! No one else could play her character.
shareAgreed. All her over pronunciations are great. And her make up sometimes makes her look like a ghost clown. So amazing.
I like to pretend this was the second marriage for Moira. That her first was to a guy who moved them from NYC to a haunted house in Connecticut and their (step) daughter was Winona Ryder. Maybe she'll make an appearance in Season 3 and call Moira, Delia.
I say that because Moira reminds me a lot of O'Hara's character in Beetlejuice (obviously).
