So are they supposed to have no money?

Does David have any, I thought he owned a gallery or something?

All of their assets and funds were stolen by his business manager and then the Gov't took whatever was left. All they have is the town they can sell (it took 20 years for the Roses to buy it last time) and the designer clothes on their back no one wants to buy. They are living in the motel for free as a courtesy by the Mayor Schitt. They have no money and are basically sponging off the town's kindness for the time being. The Roses made their money in the video rental business. It's not like he can go out and start a Blockbuster now.

oh I didn't know that last part...and didn't she make money, moira, because she was an actress.....so they would have had some money from that too..

but yes, they really do not have any money....

Moira wasn't an A-list actress, her biggest role was a soap she used to be on. Unless I missed it, the local wine commercial was her first "gig" since the soap.

Since the video empire provided more than a lavish lifestyle for all of them, Johnny probably always considered her acting "her thing" and that income was hers to do whatever she wanted with it, and she spent it like water.

I guess David's art gallery and apartment were owned by Johnny. I guess they have a few dollars, since they keep eating out and they must have to at least buy toiletries.

Perhaps Moira's wine commercial paid enough for them to live on for a bit but not enough to move out.

reply

Yea, I guess. Maybe Johnny took a couple hundred dollars before he left the mansion. They could have hid money in their clothes.

What was meant by the comment was that the town sat, for sale, on the market for 20 years before they came along and bought it (which he said he did as a kind of joke because of the name of the place.) Being as how it took that long to find a buyer, chances are nobody will be rushing in to buy the place now that he was put it back on the market.

 The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news. 

I think mainly they're just surviving on the kindness of the ppl of the town .....

And the one episode talked about how Alexis steals things occasionally
