Thoroughly enjoying this

I know it's a lot of drama fabricated for television.....I liked Desperate Housewives too. I'm also a space fanatic, so I'm getting off on The Right Stuff aspect. But I can't decide which wife is more beautiful. Carpenter's wife has that Marilyn Monroe vibe, but Glenn and Gordo's wives are pretty damn cute too.

I'm enjoying it too. I was in the 8th grade and remember vividly my history teacher telling us one morning that the Russians had put a satellite up in space. The Russians were ahead and the United States had to catch up. The space program was made a priority and it was only 2 years later that we put up our first satellite.

Throughout my high school years, whenever there was a launch from Cape Canaveral, televisions would be wheeled into our classrooms so we could watch. It was an exciting time. I remember the events in real life that are being depicted in The Astronaut Wives.

Amazing to think that it was 1959 when the Russians put up that first satellite, and 10 years later, in 1969, the U.S. put a man on the moon! It was one of those events that you remember where you were and what you were doing that afternoon that we watched Neil Armstrong step down from the lunar lander and walk on the moon.

i know where you're coming from. when i was in the third grade in the late 60s, my teacher had the entire class bussed over to her house to watch the space coverage just prior to the lift off for the moon. that just shows you what a big deal it really was.

I started first grade in '68 at a Catholic school. Each classroom had a television and for every launch that took place during the school day we watched.

(as an aside, the school also watched when my Mom appeared on a game show called Eye Guess - sort of a local celebrity)

I am also enjoying it-I was born in 1956 so I remember some of this but not a lot and I am learning a little history. As for the most beautiful -of the actresses that is hard to say but most of them do not resemble the real wives -the one playing Annie Glenn looks the closest to the real woman. Here is a pic of the real ones-They all look at least 10 years older than the actresses playing them.

Interesting! I definitely think the casting dept took cues from the real wives, but yes, the actual women are much more normal looking and considerably older than how they're portrayed.

Yes, I'd like to say the wives portrayed on the show are hot. If you look at the real 7.....in my opinion, very average.

In candid photos the Seven wives are a lot more attractive than they appear in the NASA-staged PR shots.

Look at pix of your Mom and Grandmother at the age you are now. My Mom has looked 20 years younger than her Mom did at the same age for most of her adult life. I probably look about ten years younger than my Mom did at the same age.

Do the actresses actual ages track?
