Why do they play music from today in this show?

They should be playing music that was around back then.

It's score.

Scores in period movies are typically not period music. Sometimes they're in period styles, sometimes not.

Random examples, where the scores were stylistically not in period:
- A Passage to India (won Oscar for score)
- Chariots of Fire (won Oscar)
- Shakespeare in Love (won Oscar)
- Hoosiers (Oscar nominated)
- Gladiator (Oscar nominated)

I think it takes away from the show. It'd feel more realistic if they played music from that era.

reply

I'm not sure how anyone would refer to any typical movie score as "realistic." In real life, our actions are rarely accompanied by music that we don't hear, comes from nowhere, and is neatly timed so all the cues and swells correspond with emotional reactions.

Some people on imdb like to attack things like the score in order to make themselves feel smart.

And you are an expert on scores because..........?

Also, 'Some people like to attack others on a Message Board to make themselves seem smarter.' Sad.

LOL!

reply

I'm not the one pretending to be an expert. You're the one going on the message board and telling us what music the show runners should or shouldn't use as if you know what you're talking about. Your opinion is no better or worse than anyone else's.

Oh my gosh! If you think that my post is trying to tell everyone what music should be played in the show, then you seriously have issues. It is an opinion and I have every right to post mine, so back off! You know what that word means, right? OPINION. Furthermore, anyone who takes this as seriously as you, needs a life. I'm not 'pretending' to be an expert (although I know you secretly wish you were), so calm down. On the flip side, it sounds like you are an expert at posting crap on message boards. It's too bad you can't be more productive in real life. I bet you are a coward in person and completely timid. Reply to my post all you want buddy. I won't be reading your subpar comeback. You're not smart enough for me to converse with. Oh, how I love having the last word!

And some people on IMDB like to criticize people on IMDB who criticize things.

Sorry. I wasn't clear in my previous post. It's not the score that bothers me. I think it's fine. I think that playing some more era music at different moments in the show would be cool but I'm a big fan of that. The modern music during the parade still seemed out of place to me. Didn't care for that.

reply

The music in the show is a mix of period and modern. All the music the characters "hear" as on radio, TV, etc is period correct.

Except the tune we heard during the parade in episode 2, that was a little bit over the top, I think the music has been fine.

reply

The was some orchestral rock music...and a song that sounded like a hit...but more than likely they did not use actual tunes because the show is not about the music...its about Astronauts.....and they have to pay for use of songs thru ASCAP AND BMI and the artists...and THEY ALL WANT A BUCK OR TWO....

They should be doing whatever the hell they want.

Do you actually dislike the modern soundtrack in and of itself or do you believe that period shows should never have modern soundtracks at all on general principle?
