The flashing scene

I know everyone in this movie is 30 years old, but they were supposed to be teens. They just broadcast video of a naked child, that's illegal and you could go to jail for having kiddie pron on your phone just because you were using the app. To make us, the movie watchers, have to see it with that implication was very disturbing to me.

They're supposed to be seniors in high school....maybe she was 18?

That's why this game was (supposed to be) on the deep web, but this movie is quite lazy and non-nonsensical so of course it was hard to pick up on, how characters aren't using Tor and how the site asks for USD instead of Bitcoins (which is the leading currency of the dark web). It's little server analogy near the 1st act is *beep* that is laughably incorrect but the police actually couldn't shut it down because of the safety precautions a game like this would have to take to stay alive. It's basically what all those well known sites where you can buy Guns, Weed, etc do. And kiddie porn is on that side of the internet which is sad and disturbing but it is still there. So the fact that they got some underage girl to show her vagina in the movie doesn't surprise me

Good point. I remember the stupid scene where her friend talks about how he goes on the "dark web", but then at the end he has to get his hacker friend to hook him up with the password to take him to the knock off silk road.

It really didn't seem like that is what the all the Nerve users were doing. I thought it was just a regular app on their phones, and they were all using real GPS and it didn't seem like any security of special programs. It's especially unbelievable that emma roberts would be doing that, since in the scene I mentioned she acted like she had no idea what he was talking about.

My issue was that Nerve apparently was hardly a secret, the way they were all filming with their phones and the publicity of these dares. But I would think it is possible for someone to have an app created to install that hacks and uses gps services. I don't find that all unbelievable.

Also Vee's friend really just implied he was a visitor, so he's aware of the stuff but it's not necessarily hard to get to the Dark Web. He could hack some things, but his hacker friend knew things that he simply doesn't. I think that makes sense. A hacker would be able to create their own security. All the Dark Web or "deep web" supposedly really is, is a collection of all kinds of sites including illegal things. His purposes for going to the Dark Web, I just thought he was possibly mostly going there to be a creep or for education, and not necessarily a professional hacker or genius. When he first said that he goes there, despite appearing to be a careful person, I thought "stalker alert". He could be watching gore or bootlegged movies most of the time. The Dark/Deep Web is more for morbid curiosity and probably sick people.

The main character was born in 1999 and in one scene it's revealed to be set in 2017 so it's likely she and her friends were 18.

Vee was 17 atm. She mentions it in a convo with ian bout her dead brother. So its possible for the bitchy girl to be 18

reply

Vee said she was 18 and would be 19 on a certain day when she was talking about when her brother died

At the risk of being a bit technical, the scene is probably not any sort of porn (kiddie or otherwise) because it only shows the buttocks, in a completely non-sexual context. In my state, for example, routine "mooning" does not violate public indecency laws.
