Ending-Spoilers
I'm sure at least some of the audience had some sympathy for the creature since it was not its' fault the way it was made or how it acted, but if the movie was going to end the way it did with the scientist breaking her promise to stop working on the project, I feel the film makers should have done more to help us be in sympathy with the creature to have the audience really feel the impact of the ending.
