Why are criminals afraid of Batman?
I've asked this question before on other boards but I never really got a straight answer or one I could believe.
I get that they'd be afraid of Batman in a "I don't want to get my ass kicked" way, but they always show criminals being terrified of "The Bat". Like he's some urban legend or something.
Yet in the comics and games and cartoons Batman is constantly fighting with criminals. He never kills them, the worst he does is beat them up and take them to jail. I'm sure criminals would talk and they'd put together the fact that Batman doesn't kill.
So....why are they all so terrified of him? I get being afraid of the Punisher. I get being afraid of Wolverine. I get that they would want to avoid Batman, but like in the games when you do the stealth sections the criminals all act like they're going to crap their pants with terror.
I've just never bought that aspect of Batman. Also he dresses up like a bat to terrify criminals....but his sidekick is a little boy who might as well be wearing a gay pride flag for a costume. I mean..how does Robin fit into his "terrifying" image?
