Theories as to the complete ending....

SPOILERS

I think it's obvious that Bruce and Alfred didn't just Thelma and Louise themselves a la suicide pact. It's to create the illusion they're dead.

Now as to who was at the end. First guess is Batman himself. Bruce now loves exclusively as Batman.

My feeling is different. I think that the new Batman is Jason Todd. His story was left incomplete, he helps Batman at the last second and then disappears... If he is the new Batman, using the serum Scarecrow made then it would be about making amends.

Thoughts?

As you said, it's obvious Bruce didn't commit suicide. So why would he sit around twiddling his thumbs? As long as he's alive and able to, he's going to be out there fighting crime.

And while Bruce is alive, there's no way in hell he'd allow Jason to "protect" his city. Bruce was ordering Grayson, the favored son, back to Bludhaven. But he's going to sit back and allow a murderer to patrol Gotham?

The only way anyone else is in that costume is if Bruce is truly dead. But if he's alive, and we seem to be in agreement that he is, then he's the only possible answer.

Bruce is most likely the new Batman. He alluded to as much in the final scene between him and Catwoman, after you get all the riddles and capture the Riddler. He could have said what he said while under the influence of Fear Gas and Titan, but I think it is 100 percent certain he didn't commit suicide and very likely that he continues to be Batman.

No, the new "Bat-demon" is Bruce Wayne. He makes very clear during the ends of the game that he can no longer protect Gotham as Batman and that he needs "new myth" to protect it. And that is what we see at the end.

Red Hood is happy to use guns and kill anyone, no matter how low level a criminal they are. He is not Batman.

And who else but Bruce Wayne would even consider becoming a terrifyng Bat-Demon to protect Gotham? No-one.

I agree, I think what happened was that Bruce faked his death and retreated to some hidden Batcave, and now he's taken on a new persona, using Scarecrow's fear gas to terrify criminals.

I suppose this could be the best conclusion.

At first, it didn't make sense. If Bruce Wayne is 'dead' who runs Wayne Enterprises? Then I realised Bruce Wayne doesn't need to run it when he has someone trusted like Lucius Fox to take the mantle. If Bruce Wayne is out of the picture, he can divert his attention more to the Justice League without constantly pretending to be a playboy billionaire socialite.

The only other problem would be Wayne Enterprises facing a lot of public scrutiny resulting in stocks and shares falling due to image being tarnished. So, his knightfall protocol would have to include a full rebranding of his company where nothing is associated with his name but keeping the enterprise going under a new franchise.

Yeesh, I'm way overthinking this now. They should really create a 5th installment. I feel the 4th game had poorer writing compared to the first 3. Sefton Hill is decent but Paul Dini is clearly a better writer.

Careful what you say to me. I will argue with you forever. I enjoy trying to prolong arguments :D

I think that Bruce Wayne/Batman did die when stately Wayne Manor blew up. Regardless, even if he's physically gone, Batman is still out there, watching over his city.
