Unengaging

Simplicity is both A Perfect Day’s best notion and great downfall. The negative side is evident early on, when opening text places the characters “Somewhere in the Balkans”. That lack of specificity haunts the film, curbing every attempt to ground characters and events into any real sense of authenticity. Certainly there are incidents here that could have only occurred in this place at this time, but largely the war is reduced to the general sight of bombed out houses and desperate civilians: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/a-perfect-day/
