A film that starts of brilliantly but loses it's way in it's last hour

Positives out of the way first, both Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan performances really carry this film. The first 50 or so minutes when it's just them two, Archie Barnes as little boy and few other side characters when it's just Basil Brown doing the digging the film for me it's at it's strongest and I had it at an 8.5 rating.

But in comes the love triangle and far too many other characters and Fiennes and Mulligan are pushed to the side and it becomes a very run by the mill period piece sadly. And it's not really Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin or any of other acting talents fault. They do a very good job but it just took me right out of the film and it felt like a totally different film.

Crazy how a film that had potential to be one of the better films this year fall of the track so quickly.

Well worth watching for the two leads. 7.1 IMDB score is about right on this one.
