Hap's lack of voice over

Just watched the first two episodes and while it's pretty good, the books are narrated by Hap in the third person. The series fails to do this and to me loses the heart and soul of the novels.

I was thinking the same before watching the show, and it was in my mind because another show, Outlander, was SO GREAT in delivering the point-of-view of the main character.

Yes, they are not doing this here with Hap and Leonard, but imho the final result is still very good as it is.

The direction is maybe more "conventional", but not generic. It's still a very original show.

Also, to me, the "heart and soul of the novels" is the great friendship between the characters, which is very well portrayed.

Voice overs can work so well (Goodfellas a prime example) and I think this series would have benefited from having one.

Some of the novels funniest moments come from Hap's inner ramblings.

It's a good series so far as I mentioned but I don't think i'll stick with it even though I'm a huge Lansdale fan.

The characters from the book are in my head as I imagine them and that's how I prefer it. It's certainly interesting seeing someone else's take on the books but I think i'll quit before this series infringes on my own take on the novels.
